Dawa,
Thanks for sending this along. I've spent several hours this
week meeting with Occupy Asheville participants, and I thought I'd pass
along a couple of things I've learned.
- there is not a single Occupy Asheville group - there are
various clusters operating under that name, and the 'leaderless'
organizational style is the case with each.
- The Lexington Ave. camping group has a variety of opinions
regarding strategies and ways forward.
See you tomorrow!

Mayor Bellamy and Council Members,
WWNC contacted me with questions about the Occupy
Asheville applications. He heard from someone at the site that there
was not going to be a request of Council to waive permit fees. Please
see my response below.

Hi Tank,
There have been two applications. There was a group of
people representing Occupy Asheville that met with staff before the
initial application was filed. It was during that Oct. 14 meeting that
the group articulated an intention to ask Council to waive some part of
the permit fees.
There was a second application filed with different
names represented as the event organizer. The second application was
received last week and rescinded the first one.
I’ve attached both permit applications to this email.
I’m in a meeting from 3-4:30 p.m. I’ll keep an eye on
my mobile if you have any follow up questions.
Best,

Dawa,
I know Tom said he was going to email you on this too,
but...
I need to know whose name is on the Occupy Asheville
permit. I talked to a man today down there that said his was but I
thought a woman said on TV the other day she had the permit. I just need
to confirm for a story we are going to run first thing tomorrow., so I
need to know today.
Also the man said he had not heard that they would be
asking for the city to pick up the permit fees. He said he was in the
meetings with the city and doesn't recall that being said. The
memorandum from Jeff Richardson says that will be asked for tomorrow at
the Council meeting. So I need to know who said they'd ask for that.
