Retail Operations Manager with Friends of the WNC Nature Center

The Retail Operations Manager of the Friends of the WNC Nature Center has three main areas of responsibility: The Gift Shop is open during regular business hours (10:00-4:30 361 days per year)
• Gift Shop Operations Management (70%)
• Management of Food Service/Scheduling (20%)
• Management of other revenue streams (10%).

Gift Shop Operations Management (70%)
Goal: To oversee and grow retail operations at the WNC Nature Center.
• Oversee inventory, stocking & ordering practices
o Create an inventory profile that meets organizational standards and exhibits profitability
o Oversee pricing and stock control
o Implementing sales & promotional opportunities
• Manage budget & targets; Monthly reconciliations with Exec. Dir.
• Manage point of sale and accounting systems
• Recruit, train, and schedule staff; train supplemental volunteer staff
• Establish on- and off-site marketing strategies for gift shop sales
• Manage (with Exec. Dir.) the online store & sales fulfillment
• Ensure highest level of customer service & satisfaction

Management of Food Services (20%)
Goal: To establish and grow a thriving food services at the WNC Nature Center under the direction of the Friends of the WNC Nature Center

• Working with Executive Director implement a food services plan to include:
o Cold food procurement, storage, and sales
o Contracting, scheduling, and promoting hot food vendors
• Working with Executive Director establish a plan for growing food services as a revenue stream
• Ensure all vendors represent the Friends of the WNC Nature Center to the highest standard
• Work with Friends staff to provide food options for on-site events

Management of Other Revenue Streams (10%)

• Oversee other on-site sales opportunities including plush vending machine
• Work with Friends staff to provide items for sale for off-site events
• Recommend additional opportunities for revenue as needed

Qualifications
• Retail or food service management experience required
• Experience working in any or all of the following fields strongly preferred:
o non-profit organization
o education
o museum, zoo, aquarium, or science center
• Strong communications skills, including oral and written communications and listening
• Ability to work well with others and resolve conflict
• Experience with point of sale systems required; experience with QuickBooks preferred
• Commitment to the mission of the Friends of WNC Nature Center
• Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends
• Previous experience managing staff and/or volunteers strongly preferred

Compensation

• $38,000 per year dependent upon experience
• Health Insurance, IRA contribution, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation
