Quoth the raven: The Raven Grill opened its doors on Jan. 21. Though the weather outside was frightful, Asheville gave the new restaurant a warm reception, according to owner Greg Burgin. The Raven focuses on affordable vegetarian fare, featuring such items as homemade veggie burgers, wraps and soy shakes. The bar offers a selection of microbrews and wines, some of which are organic. The Raven is located at 48 Biltmore Ave., in the building that used to house Thibodaux Jones Creole Kitchen. For more information, call 350-1234.


Authentic Thai: On Jan. 31, Noi’s Thai Kitchen opened at 535C Merrimon Ave. The menu offers an assortment of traditional Thai flavors, prepared by a skilled hand and with fresh, flavorful ingredients. Xpress review coming soon! For more information, call 251-1960.


Mountains meet the sea: The Lobster Trap, slated to open at 35 Patton Ave. on March 1, will feature fresh seafood, including lobster “sent directly from Captain Tom in Portland, Maine,” according to the eatery’s founder, Amy Beard. The restaurant will be open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, and offers a full bar as well as a diverse wine list. For more information, call 350-0505.


Through the grapevine: The Market Place Restaurant announces “Wine on Wednesdays,” thematic tasting dinners featuring eight wines paired with three- or four-course meals. The event kicks off on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m., and will run weekly until March 16, highlighting wines from around the world. The cost is $45 per person, which includes tax and gratuity; reservations are required. For more information, call 252-4162.
