Tupelo Honey, Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack, Bouchon and Luella’s: “Come to Asheville, Guy!”

Several Asheville restaurants have banded together to create a video showcasing some of what the local food scene has to offer. The purpose of the work? To entice food personalty Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (you know, the guy with the spiky blonde hair?) to town. From Tupelo Honey’s website:

Asheville, NC has an amazingly creative and talented culinary scene. It’s also diverse, with everything from Indian street food to vegan to French to our innovative take on Southern at Tupelo Honey. We also have an incredible community of independent restaurants. The Asheville Independent Restaurant Association has over 60 members, and our Foodtopian Society is proud of our independent streak.

So, all of us at Tupelo thought, “We should shine a light on our food town!” We got together with our friends at Rocky’s Hot Chicken, Bouchon and Luella’s (thinking that was a pretty good representation of the diversity of foods in our community) and put a Guy Fieri invitation-to-come-to-Asheville care package together. The package included this video:

Asheville has some of the best food choices on the east coast, and I’m comparing that to NYC and the DC metro area. However this video is not likely to convince anyone to come here–heck you can’t understand half of what they say. If they’re really serious then get someone with some decent recording equipment to do this. I bet the AV dept at one of the local colleges could come up with better recording equip!

luella’s??? seriously, luella’s?? It’s a chain!! It is fair BBQ but what are you thinking? Hey Guy … check out the fantastic burger at the unique Hardees

I might be wrong on the chain claim …. should have researched more before posting.

The Asheville culinary scene is quite impressive, however you have successfully gotten rid of your dives. Therefore I don’t think you would fit into Guy’s agenda.

I gotta concur with Oikos here. If you want to get a show like DDD’s attention you have to match their theme and attitude. All the eateries above are AWESOME and have a lot more attitude than what’s being shown here. Something with a theme like GUY FEARS ASHEVILLE or something–call the guy out and get him here with a challenge rather than a poorly recorded class project.
