Local Flavor AVL, a free smartphone app aiming to “provide visitors and locals an insider’s view to an authentic Asheville experience,” according to a press release from the company, will hold a Local Appreciation Party at Highland Brewing Co. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m. Beer, friends and music will aid in acknowledging the company’s growth “the Asheville way.”

Local Flavor, the 2013 first-place winner at Asheville Startup Weekend, launched just eight months ago to highlight Asheville businesses, restaurants, services, events, nonprofit organizations, artists and more. The appreciation party will celebrate the milestone of signing on more than 100 members and thousands of downloads and will also highlight the app’s partnership with Asheville-based hammock providers Eagles Nest Outfitters.

Avery’s Hot Dogs and Highland beer will be available for purchase, but just like its phone app, Local Flavor’s festivities are free of charge. Aaron “Woody” Wood will provide the musical backdrop, and patrons are invited to grace the dance floor or partake in a relaxing indoor hammocking session courtesy of ENO.

“By being a part of Local Flavor, we’re participating in a joint effort to promote our local business community and our products,” says ENO marketing coordinator Natalie DeRatt. “We love what Local Flavor is doing and we are proud to partner with them.”

Entering the event’s raffle is as easy as showing your Local Flavor download. Highland beer and gear, Avery’s Hot Dogs vouchers, Local Flavor t-shirts, Coconut Organics chips, Asheville Goods gift boxes and even an ENO hammock with straps will all be up for grabs.

“We could not have asked for a better location to launch this app and website. The business community has been incredibly supportive,” says Flori Pate, Local Flavor’s co-founder and creative director. “Asheville is a true ambassador of the support local movement, and we’re so excited to be able to give back to our supporters with this fun party.”
