Western North Carolina is an area rich in agriculture, which means there are many regional tailgate and farmers markets to enjoy. With the help of ASAP, Xpress is providing a roundup of regional markets, including markets accepting food assistance programs.

Generally speaking, tailgate and farmers markets in WNC run from early spring (April or May) to midwinter (November or December). The Asheville City Market (Downtown), Jackson County Farmers Market, Leicester Farmers Market and Spruce Pine Farmers Market continue year-round. You can find specific start and end dates for the 2014 season for each market by clicking on their description within the map.

For more information on area farmers/ tailgate markets, check out Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project’s website.
