This 1993 big-screen incarnation of the old TV series about Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford) on the run after being falsely nabbed for the murder of his wife (really committed by “the one-armed man”) is one of the better attempts at turning a TV show into a movie. This cat-and-mouse affair between Ford and costar Tommy Lee Jones as the cop out to get him may seem an odd choice at first for a series of films featuring trains, but not only does The Fugitive boast one of the most spectacular train wrecks of all time (depicting what happens when you actually crash a train), but it has an extended—and very nicely crafted—sequence set on the Chicago El. Solid action, good performances by the leads and an intelligent script raise the film considerably above the usual big-budget thriller fare.
