Homebrewing is no doubt one of the most popular hobbies in Asheville, and on Saturday, Jan. 17, an American Homebrewers Association rally will allow area brewing enthusiasts a chance to gather and network while taking a look at Wicked Weed Brewing’s new South Slope brewing facility, the Funkatorium.

Part of a national series of AHA Rallies (other upcoming rallies are scheduled at places such as Magnolia Brewing Co. in San Francisco and Saint Arnold Brewing Co. in  Houston, Texas), the event is intended to give homebrewers an opportunity to check out local breweries and connect with other beer enthusiasts and brewers in their area. Attendees will be able to take a VIP tour of the brewery, meet brewery staff, sample Wicked Weed brews and win prizes from the brewery and the AHA. Attendees will also receive rally-exclusive gifts from the AHA.

Attendance is free for AHA members, but nonmembers are welcome to join online, or sign up for discounted membership at the event. Designated drivers are admitted for free, but bringing children is discouraged as there is no organized entertainment for kids. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP for the event.

The rally will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Wicked Weed Brewing’s Funkatorium, 147 Coxe Ave.

This is MISINFORMATION; this is NOT an Asheville affiliated home brew association. This is a NATIONAL homebrew association gathering in ASHEVILLE to recruit members! It was a terrible PR campaign NOT to have aligned themselves with MALT (Mountain Ales and Lagers Tasters); Asheville Hombrew club during their endeavors!

    • Hi Jason – I am the Events & Membership Coordinator for the American Homebrewers Association, and am working with Wicked Weed to organize the Rally this Saturday. We did reach out to MALT, as well as all local shops and clubs to partner with us on the Rally, as we do with all of these regional events. Several shops have signed up, but we have not garnered a response from anyone with MALT. I am sorry that you feel that our PR campaign was not inclusive enough, but we would still like to have MALT participate! If you have more up-to-date contact information for the club, please contact me! My email is matt@brewersassociation.org. Thank you for pointing this miscommunication out to me!

Hi, Jason. Thanks for pointing out that this is not an Asheville-based organization — it is, in fact, part of a national rally series hosted by the American Homebrewers Association, which is based in Boulder, Colo. There was originally a typo in the headline that indicated it was an Asheville group (now corrected), but the post itself provides details and links that should help clarify the nature of the event. Thanks again!
