Asheville City Council preview: Dec. 9 meeting

The field has been narrowed, names have been named, and now it is time for the main event. After an afternoon of interviews starting a 1:30 p.m., Asheville City Council will vote during its regular meeting to appoint a seventh member to fill the vacancy left by Holly Jones’ move to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.

Of five candidates — Kelly Miller, Esther Elizabeth Manheimer, Charlie Hume, Sylvia E. Farrington and Chuck Archerd — one will be picked to finish out the last year of Jones’ term.

The item is listed under “New Business,” so the appointment will take place after a normal slate of public hearings and the consent agenda. For anyone who has the interest, the interview process itself — slated for 1:30 to 4 p.m. — is open to the public as well.

Council meets in the second floor of Asheville City Hall at 5 p.m. For the complete agenda, click here.
