This event has been postponed due to weather until Jan. 29. Here’s the latest update from organizer Matt Mittan:

Double Tree Hilton at Biltmore Village
“Conceal Carry for Teachers in Schools” – Addressing guns and safety in today’s culture
Ned Ryan Doyle vs. Dr William Forstchen
Moderated by Charu Kumarhia

NOTE: About 25 new tickets that have been added for this event. (The previously scheduled event had sold out.)

Nights schedule:

6-6:30pm – catered reception & meet and greet with audience
6:30-7:30 – moderated debate
7:30-8:00 – audience participation

Local author William Forstchen will debate local radio host Ned Ryan Doyle in an event moderated by former WLOS reporter Charu Kumarhia Thursday night at Biltmore’s Doubletree Hilton. Organized by the radio talk show Take a Stand, the debate promises to be a lively challenge on the topic of concealed carry of firearms by teachers in public schools.

Emmy award winner, journalist, and long time news anchor for News 13 WLOS, Charu Kumarhia will be moderating a debate between Ned Ryan Doyle and Dr. William Forstchen on the topic of conceal carry for teachers in schools. There will be a reception with light food and drinks from 6-6:30 PM, and audience questions will be from 7:30-8 PM.
When: Thursday Jan. 17th, 6-8 PM
Where: Doubletree Hilton at Biltmore
Cost: $5 per ticket (Limit 4 per transaction) pick up at will-call
Topic: Conceal carry for teachers in schools
There will be a list at check in of the names the tickets were purchased under. Check in at will call when you arrive
*All proceeds go to local non profits Green Opportunities and Asheville Humane*

    How are these two qualified to address this very serious topic? Aside from being mouthpieces of the far right and left fringes (and, each in their own unique way, dreaming of a world without electricity), one writes the novel equivalent of comic books, and the other advocates home-composting our own feces.

    @ Big Al …. “dreaming of a world without electricity” ??? Good one. I’m commenting on this via an “electricity” powered computer, the lights here use electricity, refrigerator, sound system, water system, microwave and more… all powered by the sun with solar. It’s less expensive, no hassles, no air pollution, no mercury released, no climate change contribution, no money being sent out of the region and when your power grid goes down… I watch TV to see what’s happening :) What I dream of is a world with CLEAN, sustainable electricity. So think again before you comment about that which you do not know. And the good Dr.’s books are hardly comic books.
