In a bid to offer more environmentally friendly computing products, Sassy’s Computers on Merrimon Avenue is now building and selling a “green” PC, which owner Bill Conkis claims consumes less power than a single compact flourescent light bulb. “Compare this to a standard PC,” he says, “which consumes ten to twelve times more energy.” Considering the energy demands of the average household using multiple computers, Conkis says, green PCs could have a huge impact on our nation’s energy consumption, if they become widely adopted.
“We’re making an effort to help our planet,” Conkis tells Xpress. “Not only is the green PC energy efficient, it is totally silent and no larger than a hard-cover book.” Conkis adds that the machine will work with any monitor, and retails for $599.
