Obama campaign opens up in Asheville

An Obama for President headquarters for the Asheville area opened its doors for an organizational meeting last Thursday, and is following that with an open house for the public this Wednesday night, April 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. The office, located at 107 Merrimon Ave., is part of the Barack Obama campaign operations in the 10th and 11th Congressional Districts in Western North Carolina (phone 225-5904).

In Madison County, there will be an organizational meeting at the Art Center on Blenhasset Island in Marshall at 6:30 on Tuesday, April 1, to plan for registering voters and getting out the Vote for Obama at the May Primary. Additional organizational meetings are taking place at Isothermal Community College tonight, March 31, at 6:30 p.m. for volunteers in Rutherford, Polk, McDowell and Henderson counties (follow the signs); and on Thursday, April 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Yancey County Library for volunteers from Yancey, Mitchell and Avery counties.

The campaign has 13 offices statewide, including Asheville, Winston-Salem and Hickory in the west.
