Paddle trail grand opening float on French Broad River

From the Riverkeeper’s website:

Join the Western North Carolina Alliance for the grand opening tour of the French Broad River Paddle Trail!

For over two years the Alliance has working with landowners, businesses, and hundreds of volunteers to build campsites in order to connect over 140 miles of the French Broad River from the headwaters, near Rosman, NC to Douglas Lake in Tennessee.

From June 9-17 we will paddle the entire length of the French Broad River North Carolina, camping at these new sites along the way. This is an amazing opportunity to be one of the first people to experience this world class paddle trail, while fishing, taking water samples, touring the Biltmore Estate winery, paddling some exciting rapids, soaking in hot springs, and enjoying the beauty of one of the oldest rivers in the world.  Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the cause for a day or the entire week. Food, beer, boats, and a shuttle are provided each day.

This is the fifth year of the French Broad Riverkeeper has worked with Sweetwater Brewing Company to help “Save the French Broad River,” and thanks to the support from the community last year was our most successful campaign to date, raising over $36,000 to help cleanup the French Broad River and build the paddle trail! A special thank you goes to REI, Parsec Financial, Sweetwater, and each and every volunteer that helped saw, dig, cut, and plant overgrown tangles of invasive species into a beautiful riverside campgrounds.
