Dozens of local boaters gathered for the Asheville Sailing Club’s regatta at Lake Julian Saturday.  According to the club’s press release, the regatta consisted of Jet-14 class boats, which are “high performance, two person, 14-foot. sailboats with a spinnaker.”  Full press release follows:

The Asheville Sailing Club will host a Jet 14 Sailboat regatta at Lake Julian the weekend of April 21-22. Racing will take place Saturday afternoon, April 21, and Sunday midday, April 22. Anyone picnicking, fishing or boating at Lake Julian Park on these two days will enjoy the spectacle of these beautiful sailboats skimming over the lake and rounding the marks.

The Jet-14 is a high performance, two person, 14-foot. sailboat with a spinnaker. This is the first regatta of the 2012 season for the Jet 14 class. Jet 14 sailors from the East Coast and Midwest, including the defending Jet 14 national champion, will use this regatta to hone their sailing skills for the Women’s, Juniors’ and National Championships in Ohio this August.

The Asheville Sailing Club holds local regattas twice a month April through October. Sailors of all levels are welcome. For more information, visit www.ashevillesailing.org or call Lee Sokol at 254-6877.
