They came with notepads, folders and pamphlets, and many of the more than 100 people who attended the Council on Aging of Buncombe County's first information session about the Affordable Care Act came with questions on Oct. 17. More sessions are planned through the month of November.
Today at 1 p.m., Gov. Bev Perdue officially announced that North Carolina will establish a state-federal health exchange under the federal Affordable Health Care Act (an exchange is a one-stop shop for people to buy health insurance). The announcement comes under a fast-approaching deadline that other states around the country are currently facing since they must notify the federal government by tomorrow, Nov. 16, about which health exchange they will establish.
