Goodbye to the real story

I was shocked and disappointed to learn that Cecil Bothwell’s employment was terminated by the Xpress.

Cecil is not only the most talented reporter in WNC, but he has the energy, instincts and courage to look behind easy answers for the real story. If the paper, its owners and management were the only ones to suffer from this self-inflicted injury, it would be sad. The tragedy is that all of us in WNC will also suffer.

  1. We suffer even more when folks like you defend admitted sex offenders Bruce; a menace to society who sexually exploited minors (boys younger than six year old), but you still do it. So you have to live without your favorite writer, I’m crying for you, I really am. The Mountain Xpress did what it thought best and Mr Bothwell, if he is as good as you imagine, will land on his feet.
Suck it up Bruce, we all pay a price to live in Asheville. Our community’s price is having to call folks like you and Andy our neighbor.

  2. Jason,
We post at this forum to debate, to inform and be informed.
Our post was on topic; -the tragedy that WNC will suffer by the fact that the Mr Bothwell will be working elsewhere-. We just compared what we thought was a more tragic event.
How does one smear someone with the truth?
If you wish to come to the defense of a true sex offender and you think that is noble, you do your best.

  3. I’m not “defending a sex offender” so much as I’m just questioning what a sex offender has to do with Bothwell being fired from the Xpress. Please, inform me on this. If it has everything to do with it, I’ll apologize to you either in person or here, but if it has nothing to do with it, and you are just airing out a personal grudge in a public forum, then you need to learn to abstain from doing such things.

  4. Jason Bugg,

The writer seems to be making a peevish complaint about the suffering and tragedy on behalf of the community in the case of a redefined working arrangement between Mr Bothwell and the Xpress. We are just simply pointing out with one truthful example that there are a myriad of things much more deserving of the words “suffer and tragedy” in our community; namely, the suffering and tragic loss of the innocence and trust of a number of six year old boys.

We fervently hold that harming and defending those that harm children is ostensibly more tragic and causes more suffering in a community than for a writer to be removed from a weekly paper.

We are not asking that you agree with our comparison or that you understand it; although it seems fairly straight forward to us.

  5. Don’t get all impassioned with me about something unrelated. You took it upon yourselves to use a public forum to sling mud at someone you have a private beef with.

You Stompers are no better than the people you attack.

  6. Yes sir oh noble one.
How dare we have an original thought, that you can not seem to grasp, without having to run it through your self appointed police state.

We were under the impression that free thought and expression was welcomed here.
We must be terribly mistaken. You can now crack your authoritarian whip and beat us into submission for daring to have a differing opinion on a subject than you.

Jason, how do you know the “stomper” is the same as the political group in the area? I am not saying one way or the other but this character strikes me as a slimeball and I don’t know much about the political group other than I didn’t view their tactics as slimy… maybe it’s a fauxprog undercover pretending to be his enemy :)

  8. Rob Close

if you didn’t view the stompers as slimy, then you haven’t seen their smear add against elaine lite.

three words: religious hate crime. against PAGANS (learn to spell, seriously).

that’s my opinion. everyone is welcome to freely object or agree, and if you whine that we’re restricting you or saying you can’t say something…well you’re even stupider. like someone, or some people, who seem feel of hate and stupidity.

Jason, you’re right, I had no clue why they brought up the sex offender thing, and asking how it was relevant was logical. Authoritarian? I doubt you even own a whip.

    These hypocritical stompers are pathetic.

  9. travelah

robclose, I did see their opposition to Lite and I do not see any problem with it. That has nothing to do with religious hate crime as one, there is no hatred involved and two, there was no crime committed against Ms. Lite or the PAGANs.

As for learning to spell, I am looking through the thread and the first time I see any reference to pagans is in your post and I am certain it is not spelled with six capitalized letters.
