Richmond, Va.‘s Carbon Leaf returns to Asheville to play Shamboozle Fest. The Celtic festival, held at Highland Brewery and curated by Calif.-based band Gaelic Storm, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21. But, as Carbon Leaf front man Barry Privett explains, tin whistles and Irish influences are only part of his band’s sound. They’ll release a distinctly Americana/folk album on Oct. 1.
The new local experimental folk quartet (Jeff Markham on guitar and vocals, Peter Van Rijssen on bass and vocals, Will Hogancamp on guitar and Kent Spillmann on drums) is just getting started booking local shows, but they’ve already released a debut EP.
Biggz General (reggae and hip-hop artist, and son of Bob Marley’s adopted daughter Sharon Prendergast), plays Highland Brewery on Thursday, Jan. 17. RedLyte, ARTIKaL Soundsystem and Marietta’s Palm also perform at the free show.
