“Medicine Beyond Medication,” North Carolina’s first statewide symposium on narrative health care, will take place at the Mountain Area Health Education Center’s Hendersonville Road campus on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19. Presenters, including Dr. Rita Charon, will focus on how an understanding of story can lead to better outcomes for patients and practitioners alike.
Events take place Thursday-Sunday, April 12-15, at UNC Asheville, Malaprop’s and the Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Asheville campus.
“We try to honor the local literary of whatever locale we happen to be in that year,” says Nort Carolin Writers’ Network Executive Director Ed Southern. The three-day fall conference rotates locations throughout the state and this year it returns to Asheville, taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Asheville-Biltmore Friday to Sunday, Nov. 20-22.

The 2015 Wordfest takes place Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Asheville campus. The festival is a chance to see narrative as a connective force across communities and this year’s theme is an expansion of what many authors live for and love — community, creativity and Asheville itself.
