The Asheville Police Department reports an apparent murder-suicide in East Asheville, leaving two — Diana Smith McGovern, 50 and William Michael McGovern, 51 — dead.
A week after the body of Misty Lynn Carter, 21, was found on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking clues in the case. This afternoon, investigators revealed that blunt force trauma to the head was the cause of death.
The Asheville Police Department has charged Marcus Austin Thorpe, 17, with first-degree murder in the Sept. 12 shooting in Hillcrest Apartments that left one man dead and one woman injured. The Asheville Police Department has charged Steven Gordon Shultz with stabbing Frederick Garfield McLeod in the Beaucatcher Cinemas parking lot on Tunnel Road. In a press conference this morning, Capt. Tim Splain asserted that McLeod was a crack-cocaine dealer, and that the stabbing happened during a drug deal.
