This weekend brings film, karaoke (for the bold), spoken word and more. As always, Xpress highlights the best in low-cost weekend entertainment.
Naked Gods are from Boone, a town that isn’t renowned for music. From this inauspicious locale, the quintet have worked slowly over their first five years, synthesizing various strains of rock into a meaty sound all their own.
Nationally touring acts like Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Acoustic Syndicate, Greensky Bluegrass and Frontier Ruckus are expected to draw more than 5,000 fans to the high country this weekend, with a host of local performers including Naked Gods, Uncle Mountain, River Whyless, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Secret B-Sides and Town Mountain rounding out the bill.
Festivities at Music on the Mountaintop got an early start Saturday morning as the sun rose over the misty Boone hills and drowsy campers rubbed the sleep from their eyes.
