Stars and Dust, the new album by Songs of Water (out in June), is not easy listening — which is not to say it’s un easy listening. But these 10 tracks demand attention. From the first staccato notes of “11 Miles,” the album is a journey, transportive and transformative.
Songs of water is about to release a new album and a documentary about the process of making that album. Stephen Roach, Greg Willette and Luke Skaggs talked about those projects as well as the band’s spirit of experimentation and what the world music genre means to them.
Song of Water’s new album, The Sea Has Spoken, seamlessly melds Appalachian string instruments, classical elements, complex percussion and elegant composition. The band performs Saturday, May 1, at The White Horse.
