Vigil in Asheville on Thursday, the push for marriage equality in North Carolina
Asheville, N.C. (June 25, 2014) – On Thursday June 26, the Campaign for Southern Equality (CSE) is hosting a vigil to commemorate the one-year anniversary of DOMA being struck down by the Supreme Court and discuss the progress made since then for LGBT rights. The event will take place at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in downtown Asheville (20 Oak Street) from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
CSE staff will talk about their plan for action once a ruling impacting North Carolina’s marriage laws is issued. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to rule this summer on Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage; a broad ruling could result in same-sex couples being able to marry in North Carolina. CSE will also discuss what the ruling issued on Wednesday by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage means for North Carolina.
