RALEIGH, N.C., Sept. 11, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Thanks to the
continued generosity of its members and North Carolina communities,
State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is pleased to announce plans for
its 4th annual SECU Supports the Troops campaign, which will kick off
September 16th and run through October 31st. All 250 statewide branches
will collect “wish list” items to provide holiday care packages for
North Carolina deployed soldiers.
As with previous campaigns, SECU’s goal is to pack 5,000 gift boxes.
The boxes will include travel sized toiletries, first aid items and
snacks, along with one-of-a-kind thank you cards and letters expressing
words of encouragement from local school children — always a big hit
with the soldiers! In addition to collecting items, SECU will accept
monetary donations to assist with shipping costs.
In a note of appreciation to SECU after his unit received the holiday
boxes last year, William Crouch, Master Sergeant in the United States
Air Force wrote, “What a lift it was to a very tired group of girls and
guys when all of the care packages came in after a hard day’s work.
I’ve never seen so many grown-ups so excited to read the letters
included in the boxes. Everyone was on cloud nine — the gift boxes
were a great lift to everyone’s spirits!”

Carolina’s deployed soldiers and their families,” comments Leigh Brady,
SECU Executive Vice President of Organizational Development. “This
project certainly hits home with SECU, as our credit union serves and
employs members of the North Carolina National Guard and Reserves. It’s
a reflection of the genuine caring efforts and generosity of SECU
staff, members and community supporters who want these local soldiers
to know they make a difference.”
