Eclectic line-up marks Biltmore Estate’s Summer Concert Series

Winter’s not over for at least a few more weeks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start thinking of summer and the Biltmore Estate’s Summer Concert Series. Tickets go on sale April 1. This is the earliest that the Biltmore has ever announced its line-up, so it and the dates are subject to change. The concerts are staged on the lawn beside Asheville’s most famous house. Now in its 12th season, the series appears to be more eclectic than ever.

Here it is:

Aug. 1: Stephen Curtis Chapman is a popular contemporary Christian music singer.

Aug. 2: KC & The Sunshine Band with Village People will bring their classic 1970s funk, R&B and disco party sound.

Aug. 6: STEPCREW draws on Celtic inspiration to combine fiddle work with high-energy dancing.

Aug. 7: Gladys Knight, a classic R&B and soul singer best known for her 1960s and ‘70s recordings and hits with her group, Gladys Knight and the Pips. Knight now makes her home in eastern Buncombe County.

Aug. 8: B.B. King, the legendary bluesman. What more can you say about the 82-year-old and his amazing guitar work?

Aug. 9: REO Speedwagon, the 1980s, the power balladeers that gave you “Keep on Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” You can hear the songs in your head right now, can’t you?

Aug. 15: The Beach Boys, another classic band that with just one original band member, Mike Love. The band played in Canton last August.

  1. Verifying

Has anyone ever verified that Gladys Knight does indeed live here? One sees this occasionally, but none of the biographical info on the Web confirms this.
