So, I’m a fan of foam fingers, and also tend to listen to David Halstead (of Thrill Jockey) when he says a good show is coming. And he says a good show is coming. That would be Baltimore-based Double Dagger, they of the charming photos. [editor’s note: I’m such a girl.] The band plays the New French Bar on Friday, June 19.
I’m sure they’d rather be known for the things Halstead lists below: “A precarious mix of art-punk DIY aestheticism, hardcore political and social commentary and straight-up pop hooks.” The video links below will give a better glimpse.
From Halstead: “They are starting to become well-known in a lot of underground circles, so this is the perfect opportunity to catch them in a smaller space before they start to hit larger stages. Double Dagger craft a sound that is a precarious mix of art-punk DIY aestheticism, hardcore political and social commentary and straight up pop hooks that come together and create a live tour de force. They use only drums, bass guitar and vocals to pummel their audience with an impressive wall of sound. They’re loud and playfully aggressive but always grounded in a pop sensibility. They seem to be getting a lot of comparisons to Fugazi and the “D.C. sound,” but they stand on their own and have been given credit for keeping the sound fresh, invigorating and relevant.
