Ben Lovett blurs the line between aural and visual. His debut album, Highway Collection, was released last spring, but prior to his role as rock bandleader in Asheville, the producer/composer/multi-instrumentalist enjoyed a successful career crafting film scores in L.A.
Obviously, Lovett isn’t ready to hang up that hat just yet. Over the past year, the Georgia native has been hard at work producing and starring in videos for each of the album’s nine tracks. And if that wasn’t enough, one of those projects accidentally took on a life of its own. The video eventually morphed into a free-standing short film, complete with its own score, photography exhibit and art show.
Ghost of Old Highways has already seen openings in L.A. and Atlanta, and on Wednesday, Lovett brings that epic multimedia smorgasbord to Asheville with an equally epic presentation that spans three venues across downtown Asheville.
Xpress sat down with the filmmaker/composer/bandleader at Echo Mountain to discuss the project:

Ghost of Old Highways premiere schedule:
• Private screening and music performance at Moog Sound Lab, 7 p.m.
• Art opening with original portraits, costumes and props from the film, along with an opportunity to meet the artists and filmmakers, at The Satellite Gallery, 8 p.m. (The exhibit will remain on display with a behind the scenes film about the making of Ghost of Old Highways through Oct. 16.)
• Public screening and dance party at The LAB, 10 p.m.
