Blog Alert: Thunder Pig cuts with the politics and makes with the dancing!

While local blogger Thunder Pig may be best known for “Blogging the Conservative Revolution in West Carolina,” a recent post proves even partisan politics can sometimes be shunted aside when it comes to covering a regional cultural highlight. The Asheville-based political blogger recently posted a video and photos from the 11th annual A Taste of Scotland Festival in Franklin.

With a wealth of left-leaning bloggers in the area, the outspokenly conservative Thunder Pig may just be what the region needs to claim a “fair and balanced” blogosphere. Local politics, particularly the antics of “the neo-Stalinists on the City-Council,” are dead within Thunder Pig’s sights. (Not that such charming characterizations are limited to political subjects. For instance, Thunder Pig recently referred to local-media mainstay the Mountain Xpress as the “home of socialism in Asheville.”)

This isn’t the first time Thunder Pig has branched out into covering regional culture. Only last month, the blog extensively covered the re-opening of Maggie Valley’s Ghost Town In The Sky with a series of YouTube video posts. It’s good to find that the blog, which was launched in May of 2005, isn’t strictly limited to liberal-bashing.

    I read Thunder Pig almost every day. I see it as a window into an otherwise impenetrable world where we’re in World War Five, where WMDs were conspiratorially spirited out of Iraq, where the Mexican Invasion is alive and well, and where you’ll find John Armor guest posting from time to time.

    The blog’s host and owner is a very civil person who may not be aware of the scorn heaped upon his politics by the Drinking Liberally crowd, but I’m glad he’s doing what he’s doing. WNC bloggers have to stick together.

    Screwy: I’m sure the ‘Pig is aware of any and all scorn from liberals. In fact, I’d guess that’s part of the fuel behind the fire.
