Catch Blind Boys of Alabama in Franklin

If you didn’t catch their blistering performance with Lou Reed on the Letterman show in January or receive a special invitation to hear them at the White House in February, then March might be your lucky month.  Legendary gospel group Blind Boys of Alabama will perform this Friday at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts in Franklin. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-$30.

In 2009, the Blind Boys recieved the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award as well as another Grammy Award (their 5th) for their last studio album, Down In New Orleans. The album included performances with Lou Reed, John Hammond, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Travis, Toots Hibbert, Susan Tedeschiand and many other notable musicians.

Also on the ticket Friday night is the Fairfield Four, another legendary gospel group known for their traditional African-American a cappella singing. You might have caught their brief appearance in the motion picture O Brother, Where Art Thou?

The Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts is a 1,500 seat state-of-the-art facilty which opened last summer. For more information about other shows coming to the center or to purchase tickets, visit www.greatmountainmusic.com

Wow! I just went to the link. This is probably one of the best versions of Amazing Grace I’ve ever heard. Such? a great arrangement and vocals!
