Donavon Frankenreiter’s “Same Lullaby”

Videographer Jesse Hamm just released this footage that he shot of Donavon Frankenreiter’s sound check last fall. It’s a cool version of the song “Same Lullaby,” and there’s a hint in here as to the behind-the-scenes personalities of Donavon and his collaborator, Matt Grundy.

The lamps in the video were purchased earlier in the day by Donavon at an antique store. After I interviewed him, I mentioned to his road manager that I’d held back a couple of questions. The road manager asked me for an example, and I said I’d heard the band goes surfing at most tour stops, so I wondered what they did in the mountains. “They go antiquing,” was the answer.
