Get out of downtown

Looking for an escape from downtown? Take a short ride to West Asheville to get a break from the crowds. Get Out of Downtown took over the lawn at Izzy’s Coffee Den’s West Asheville location on Saturday afternoon. Cold lemonade and good tunes from Asheville FM attracted people who wanted to skip Bele Chere this year. Gypsy Queen Cuisine was on site with falafel and other Middle Eastern foods.

Greg Lyon, Asheville FM station co-manager and Vice President of the Board said he might go downtown later, but it was unlikely. “I haven’t been in years. Usually the music is not that interesting to me and it’s too crowded and you can’t park.”

Some came to West Asheville not to avoid downtown, but to enjoy an afternoon of West Asheville culture. “I love to support the neighborhood in general and Izzy’s and Asheville FM in particular,” said Clary.

Get Out of Downtown will have music until 8 p.m. and Izzy’s Coffee Den in West Asheville will be open until 10 p.m.
