Durham/Brooklyn-based Hiss Golden Messenger blends blue-collar mysticism (the band’s term, from their bio) with punk sensibilities (M.C. Taylor and Scott Hirsch are former members of Ex-Ignota) and folk roots. They played the Apothecary on Saturday, Aug. 10. In advance of the show, Taylor (the Durham part of the equation; his collaborator Hirsch lives in N.Y.) performed an exclusive song for Xpress. Video by Jesse Hamm.
