Josh Phillips and Soulgrass Rebellion at DTA5

Downtown After 5’s all-local session was Friday, July 16. And what a time it was. The drizzle kept things cool at the free outdoor concert, and these are a couple of bands who know how to entertain a crowd.

We had to work and didn’t get to check out Soulgrass Rebellion, but having seen them several times, we’re sure their high-energy live show was perfect for the downtown masses. And Josh Phillips Folk Festival is a favorite, with its positive brand of soulful folk-rock, the sweet harmonies of Phillips and Debrissa McKinney and a few surprising and fun covers (Paul Simon’s “I Know What I Know,” Radiohead’s “Creep”).

Here, a couple of videos from Jesse Hamm for Xpress:

Great evening of local badasses! Thanks for the video – wish there was some from later in the set when sound had smoothed out a little…still, sweet!
