Kid-hop and carnival entertainment with Secret Agent 23 Skidoo

For the second annual 23 Ring Circus, hip/kid-hop musician Secret Agent 23 Skidoo teams up with The Runaway Circus, a vaudeville-inspired performance troupe and juggling masters 40 Fingers and a Missing Tooth, for a family-friendly performance extravaganza that promises to “irrevocably shape the memories of hundreds of childhoods in later nostalgiac musings.”  The festivities also include balloon twisting by the Jolly Balloonsmiths, mini golf with the emerging golf enthusiasts Sweet Tee, ice cream provided by Ultimate Ice Cream and cotton candy. The matinee performance will be held at the Orange Peel on June 5th, at 11:30 a.m.

As Secret Agent 23 Skidoo writes in a press release: “We’ll be filming raw material for a strange-and-psychedelic music video for a song called ‘13 OCLOCK,’ off the upcoming album Underground Playground, to be released [on] August 30: This means that all funk-fried Ashevillians should come out dressed to impress, suited and booted in their most surreal attire.”

Doors open at 10:30 a.m., the show begins at 11:30 a.m. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 kids under 12. Held at the Orange Peel (101 Biltmore Ave., Asheville).

Secret Agent 23

More about Secret Agent 23 Skidoo as featured on the Orange Peel’s Web site: “Secret Agent 23 Skidoo is on a mission. As a lifetime fan of hip-hop and super-dad of an awesome daughter, he realized the need for hip-hop that spoke straight to the magic mindset of the kids and still kept the parents nodding along on the 5000th listen. If you’re a parent, you know what I’m talking about. Alchemetically mixing the classic golden-age hip-hop drum and sample foundation with a slew of talented musicians, 23 Skidoo created 13 tracks with influence ranging from bluegrass and reggae to blues and funk. Then, to top it off, he balanced equal parts party rhymes for youngsters, reminding them to have fun, stay true to themselves, and get out and enjoy life, with a host of characters and wild stories, from the last dragon left on earth to a retelling of the Aesop ‘grasshopper and ants’ fable in which the grasshopper comes out on top. He asked his daughter to name the album, and thus “Easy” was born. With over a decade of recording, performance, and production under his belt, the music and sound quality of this album is remarkable. And with 6 years of chilling with one of the coolest little girls on earth, the song concepts hit the bulls eye for the 3-13 crowd. The song ‘Luck’ enjoyed multiple weeks as #1 on the XMkids charts, and kidsmusicthatrocks.com said, ‘Easy is easily one of the top ten childrens albums of 2008.’ From the back and forth crowd rocking, ‘Gotta Be Me’ to 5 year old Saki’s stunning rap debut on ‘Family Tree,’ this album will be a sound for sore ears, both young and old.”
