The skinny on a couple of free events tonight. Catch a showcase of step groups performing at UNCA or an old-time band at Pisgah Brewery.
Here’s the deal on Step it Out 2009: Step groups from across the Southeast will perform at 7:30 p.m. tonight at UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. From the Black Student Association organizers: “Step shows, popularized by historically black fraternities, feature high-energy synchronized dance routines, comprising elements of African dances and military exhibition drills. Groups from UNC Asheville, Radford University, UNC Wilmington, Virginia Tech and Winthrop College are set to perform.”
And at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain, check out The Flat Creek Boys. From frontman Joe Hallock: We play traditional old time music of the Southern Appalachians. Because the show will take place on Friday the 13th, which is also Valentine’s Eve, we will be focusing on songs of love and death: murder ballads, broken hearts, and bad things people do.”
Sounds like some really great music there in Black Mountain tonight.
