Listen up

If you notice bright red horns blaring as you stroll through downtown Asheville this weekend, stop and take a listen. The Megaphone Project’s eighteen horns traveled from Melbourne, Australia for a sound art installation that is sure to blow you away.

People of all ages are invited to “talk, sing or shout” into the horns at the Blue to Black Art Weekend in Black Mountain on Saturday, May 4 and outside the Asheville Art Museum at the Big Love Festival on Sunday, May 5.

Whisper your secrets into an open-mesh system of speakers hidden deep within the horns or listen to a pre-recorded soundscores from previous installations. Earlier this week, hundreds of local kids visited the installation with LEAF Schools and Streets, the YWCA and various community centers and schools. The children’s poetry, songs and raps will create a soundscore for the upcoming LEAF Festival.
