Moogfest Day 1: Kuroma

Kuroma was the first band at Moogfest to play the Asheville Civic Center, warming up the big stage for later sets by Big Boi, MGMT and Girl Talk. Here’s a slide show of the set:

Here’s bio info on the band:

Hank Sullivant was a founder member of the Whigs and a former touring member of MGMT. His own outfit, Kuroma, is a perfect blend of the two, deftly combining the shimmering, textured pop of the latter with a dose of the hard-rocking riffage of his first band. Sallivant is supremely confident onstage, working the piano on tracks like “I Was the Rat” before laying down a fuzzed-out guitar squealer that’s worthy of Brian May.
