N.C. Rocks for Change free concert announced

Fresh on the heels of singer/songwriter James Taylor’s free concert in Asheville, some of the state’s top pop and rock artists will perform to support Barack Obama’s presidential campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with free tickets becoming available on Thursday.

The event, which will be held at the Grey Eagle starting at 8 p.m., will feature the following acts: The Reigning Sound (pictured), Tift Merritt, Chris Stamey (of the dBs), Portastatic (featuring Mac McCaughan of Superchunck), Greg Humphreys (from Hobex), and the Electric Owls (former members of the Comas).

Free tickets for the event will be distributed outside the early voting location at UNCA’s Zeis Hall, which is by the Quad, beginning at 10 a.m. this Thursday, Oct. 23. Tickets will be given away during voting hours on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday (or until the supply runs out).

Quick advisory: This morning (between 10 and 10:30 a.m.) outside the Zeis building, there wasn’t anyone giving out tickets. I’ve contacted the campaign for more information.

Campaign official advises that the people giving out tickets are on the quad-side of the building surrounded by signs and posters. Sounds hard to miss.

The only way to get tickets is to go to UNCA? What if we can’t make it over there? Can you not get tickets at the Grey Eagle?
