Sarah Tucker releases first album

When Sarah Tucker sang her first song at just 18-months-old, it was clear that she had talent. Now at the ripe old age of 17, Tucker continues to combine rock, jazz and old-time music with singer-songwriter prowess. She won the Asheville Music Hall’s Brown Bag Singer Songwriter Competition in 2011 and just released her first CD.

A release party for her album The Windowsill Girl on will be held on Saturday, March 23 at the Madison County Arts Council in Marshall. The show will include a full band, featuring Elijah McWilliams on guitar, Michael Rhodes on drums and others.

Sarah Tucker’s past performances include Highland Brewing Company, Mellow Mushroom and the Asheville Symphony Children’s Chorus. If you wandered through Earthfare in 1997, you may have heard her singing for strawberries with a microphone in the checkout line.

Tucker was featured in the documentary Over Home: Love Songs of Madison County as a representative of the next generation of ballad songwriters. Her songwriting is informed by traditional ballads she learned from seventh generation ballad singer Sheila Kay, who is a champion of songs about life, death, love and everything in between.
