Aaron Woody Wood‘s Kickstarter campaign has ten days left. With 96 backers and $5,115 pledged, will he make it? You can help.
Sunday, August 29, is the deadline for the fundraiser. Wood put out the call on the fledgling (but apparently pretty successful) Kickstarter website, asking for friends and fans to come together and pledge for his new album.
But it’s an all-or-nothing affair: If the campaign doesn’t make it to the $9,000 goal, no one pays and the deal’s off.
Wood’s got a lot of fans around here — and in more states than good ol’ North Carolina, no doubt, after touring cross-country for years and landing a SubPop record deal with The Blue Rags, a (fortunately brief) move to New Orleans and an appearance on CMT with Sara Evans in Nashville. He’s descended from deep musical lineage, and most Ashevilleans know, there’s nothing he’s better suited for: “All I’ve ever known is playing music,” Wood says on his Kickstarter page.
He plays solo and with his band just about everywhere in town — event at Pritchard Park (yesterday during lunchtime). Woody’s a talented songwriter and an amazing guitar talent, and I think it would be pretty awesome if the community rallied to help him make this record.

Does is really cost 9,000.00 to record an album here in Asheville? Wow, I never knew. I’m sure many more Asheville people will jump on this opportunity and add their projects to this site. I saw a few from Asheville. The projects/and or needs by Dawn Dalto, Faith Rhyne, and Michael Phillips didn’t hardly collect any cash. So, do you get the cash that is donated whether or not is is your goal amount?
Woody doesn’t get the cash if he doesn’t raise the goal of $9K. And keep in mind that money is not just to record an album. If you take a look at the site, he offers people the opportunity to pre-order the album, either in CD form or Vinyl, you can get t-shirts, stickers, posters, lyric sheets, he’ll record a cover song of your choice and release it as a free download. The $9K covers studio time, paying session musicians, a producer, mastering, manufacturing CDs and Vinyl, paying someone to do artwork, etc. Printing t-shirts, etc. So when you think about it, $9K won’t even cover all of that.
So no Imposter, if you looked it up, you would see if he doesn’t make his goal, no money even changes hands. There’s no pain in the butt refund or any of that. And you even get a free download immediately when you back the project. So, if you back his project and he’s not successful, you just got one song for free. That’s pretty low risk for a backer.
