Fleet Foxes announce they’ll play Asheville’s Thomas Wolfe Auditorium

Headlining the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium a long way from an opening slot at the Grey Eagle — which is what Fleet Foxes were doing last time they were Asheville. As Xpress photographer Rich Orris reminds us, that was March, 2008 when Fleet Foxes were the supporting act for Blitzen Trapper (that’s Orris’ photo, below). Frontman Robin Pecknold mentioned that he was a vegan and wondered where he could find something to eat, cementing the fact that Asheville was the perfect tour stop for the burgeoning Fleet Foxes. Surely they’d be back soon and often.

Approximately five minutes later, Fleet Foxes and their gorgeous, melodic, harmonic self-titled debut album blew up and started headlining their own shows. Internationally. They didn’t make it back to Asheville.

Until now, that is. The second leg of the band’s tour for sophomore album Helplessness Blues brings them to the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35 plus fees and go one sale on Friday, July 29.

It’s really awesome they’re coming, but $35!!! That’s what Wilco is charging on their current tour and they’ve been around far longer and have way more fans. Kind of presumptuous for a band with barely two albums to think they’re worth paying that much to see. Definitely won’t sell out…

Hopefully if it’s moved to the Civic Center they’ll have better sound engineers than the tone deaf ones playing with the board at Mumford & Son’s show.
