Mountain Xpress: How did you get into music?
Experimental / Electronica / Live Electronics group EFX : I got into music early on into middle school nearly 11 years ago, because of my brother (NYF). Music is proof of something larger than this everyday illusion.
Q: If you weren’t a musician, what would you want to be?
A: A devoted monk to seek nirvana via other means.
Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
A: Honestly, nothing.
Q: Tell us about your car.
A: My car is a beast. I have a Carolina blue 1988 Acura Integra RS with a total of 331,856 miles — original engine and transmission! She has a lot of history. I have keys for my car that were made in West Germany. Yes, that’s right, my car has been to Europe, back when West Germany was still there. I love her dearly.
Q: Are you going to play a show in Tulsa?
A: Hell no: Asheville > Tulsa.
Q: Who do you consider to be very cool?
A: Plato, for he pointed down to the Earth.
Q: Do you have a crush on anyone?
A: Yeah, I do. Wish me luck!
Q: What was the most perfect gift you ever received?
A: My ears.
Q: What was the nicest thing you’ve ever done for your mom on Mother’s Day?
A: Took her hiking up to 417 for a waterfall picnic.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Destroying sound, creating sound, recording sound, eating sound, drinking sound, hiking, photography, sound design, playing piano.
Q: Describe your perfect day.
A: It starts off with me finding the woman of my dreams, who takes me to her underground monolithic dome studio so she can show me her equipment. On the way there, a leprechaun pours me a bowl of Lucky Charms and adds extra marshmallows, just for me. Then, after making sweet, sweet love on top of a 256-channel gold-plated mixer from Sweden, I would find nirvana and leave this world behind, sharing my infinite love and wisdom with all that will caress my soul. Perfect.
Q: What’s something you refuse to eat?
A: What the media tries to force down my throat.
Q: If you had to choose one word to describe your life, what would that word be?
A: Antidisestablishmentarianism.
