Indie-duo Osaka Pearl launches a CD, Christian rockers raise money for a local mission, metal takes over the Boiler Room and satirical songsters The Surrogate Squad (pictured) play a show in their car.

• What goes with pizza and beer? Apparently, Locomotive Pie. The Americana-roots band plays Blue Mountain Pizza (55 N. Main St., Weaverville) at 7 p.m. No cover.
• Christian rockers Admit1 are at The Encouraging Cup (3099 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher) for an 8 p.m. show. $3.
• Also $3: Now You See Them at Fred’s Speakeasy (122 College St., Asheville).
• Asheville’s pop rock outfit Broomstars are at The Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville) with Telestrion from Atlanta at 9 p.m. $5.
• Also $5: Dehlia Low at Jack of the Wood (95 Patton Ave., Asheville); Phuncle Sam with Iyah Roots and Bitter Gemma at The Garage at Biltmore (101 Fairview Road, Asheville) and The Sharkadelics at The Hangar (I-26 Asheville Airport exit, Arden).
Saturday, Jan. 31
• Christian rock, for a good cause: Weaverville’s Ignite 12:29 plays a benefit for ABCCM at 11 Rocket Dr., Asheville. Here are the details: “Warm up the night benefit concert for ABCCM at covenant community church. Meal at 6 p.m., music at 7 p.m. Music by Ignite 12:29 and Zoe Seed. Call 298-8955 for more info.”
• For something a little heavier, Machines of Sin and Sorrow play a 10 p.m. show at The Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville) with Convalescence, Ironside, and As Sick As Us. $5.
• In the mood for something really different? Experimental quintet The Surrogate Squad from Canton (they sing scratchy, a capella ditties about goat cheese, toilet paper and taxidermy) has planned a 10 p.m. show “In the back of Wesley’s car on the way to McDonald’s.” Price? A burger. According to the group’s MySpace page, “Yes, the band is writing some new material. And we are doing [it] in no place other than the back of Wesley’s car. You may join us and be astounded, but you must keep [quiet] and also buy our meals.”
• Steer clear of fast food restaurants and stick to a $5 budget with A Social Function at Magnolia’s (26 Walnut Street, Asheville), Osaka Pearl at BoBo Gallery (22 Lexington Ave., Asheville) or the vintage rockabilly of Crackerjack at Westville Pub.

Thank you for suggesting Now You See Them! I had no idea they played locally! I had never seen them before and saw them perform on the LA Zoom bus during Pop Asheville and they blew me away.
