• Local DJ/radio personality/singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and recent round champion of the White Horse’s Great Blue Ridge Talent Search, Aaron LaFalce (below) pretty much does everything. • Asheville’s Now You See Them and Greensboro’s Holy Ghost Tent Revival team up for a free show at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Grotto (University Heights, Asheville, 251-6600). 8 p.m.

• Atlanta-based John Zedd (below) was high school student government president, voted most likely to succeed, graduated cum laude from Harvard and attended Michigan Law School. He also performs sweet indie-pop tunes a la Jason Mraz and the Weepies. Zedd will be at Firestorm Cafe (48 Commerce St., Asheville, 255-8115) for a free show at 8 p.m.

• Ivan the Terribles, fronted by David Clegg (of The Davids) opens for The South French Broads and Solito at the Emerald Lounge (112 North Lexington Ave., Asheville, 232-4372). 8 p.m., $5.

Friday, Feb. 19
• Absurdist Gypsy jazz outfit Sirius.B starts off the weekend at Highland Brewery’s tasting room (12 Old Charlotte Hwy., Asheville, 299-3370). 6 p.m., tips.

• “We are a lot like Van Halen,” says The Slow Death (pictured) from Minneapolis. That is, “If they played punk rock and loved country music, if there were entirely different people in the band, they played totally different songs, they all played different instruments and they didn’t really care for the real band Van Halen.” The Slow Death brings its hard-hitting cowpunk drinking music to Broadways (120 North Lexington Ave., Asheville, 285-0400). 9 p.m.

• Punk/soul duo The Black Diamond Heavies (below) take the stage at Mo Daddy’s (77 Biltmore Ave. Asheville, 258-1550); local one man band Shake it Like a Caveman opens. 9 p.m.

• Local experimental bands Shake Azalia (pictured) and Glasswalls join Christian rockers Divide the Sea (South Carolina) and The Young American Landscape (Texas) to perform at Crossroads Assembly (20 South Bear Creek Rd., Asheville, 254-5519). 8 p.m., $5.

• Folk musician Jenny Arch will be at Cypress Cellar (321 North Main St., Weaverville, 698-1005). 8:30 p.m., free.
