Urban Outfitters’ Grand Opening

Love it or hate it, Urban Outfitters is now in downtown Asheville. The women’s and men’s apparel and furnishings store is in the final stages of stocking its new location at the corner of Haywood and College Streets (the space formerly occupied by CVS).

The store is set to open on Thursday, Jan. 28, and — perhaps in a bid for the affections of Asheville’s locavore community — has planned a very Asheville-centric grand opening celebration. Local music and food are on the bill, and (according to an email distributed among online shoppers) “10-percent of sales from opening weekend will be donated to Arts 2 People.”

The musical lineup includes:
• Folk/pop trio Now You See Them, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

• Folk/blues group Erika Jane and Remember the Bees, 3-4 p.m.

• Electro-rock outfit RBTS Win, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

• GTRS, 6-7 p.m.

Food from downtown eateries includes:
Tupelo Honey Cafe at noon

Chocolate Fetish at 3 p.m.

Zambra at 5 p.m.

No telling if shoppers can snack on tapas while wriggling into skinny jeans.

For those who just don’t want the tapas/skinny jeans/indie-folk revelry to end, The Hookah Bar (38-B N. French Broad 252-1522) holds an Urban Outfitters Grand Opening After Party. Partakers can “dance fantastic!” from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Sounds good, but I miss my afternoon bag of Combos…they truly “cheesed my hunger away”. But Asheville Discount Pharmacy has ’em, so all is well.

  2. Now You See Them

Ut Oh…there’s been a mix-up at the factory! Now You See Them, sadly, cannot be in attendance.

I walked by Urban Outfitters last nite around 11pm and their lights were all on and I think the place could be seen from outer space. It would be nice if they at least TRY to blend a little.
