Video A-Go-Go: A High-Diving, Moog-Praising, Beer Touring, Home-Returning Good Time

Let’s start this week’s roundup off with a little action. Here’s a series of high-flying, danger-taunting stunts from the recent ActionFest event at Carolina Cinemas. High dives, the Rocketman and even a little mock fighting make this video one of the highlights of the week’s local YouTube uploads.

Speaking of recent big events, one of the most exciting non-film events to happen in Asheville recently was the opening of the MiniMoogseum at the Orange Peel. The permanent installation honoring the life and work of Bob Moog was fittingly opened by innovative rock and hip-hop group The Beastie Boys, who have long used Moog’s iconic instruments in their tunes.

Asheville native Thomas Wolfe may be best known for his observation that “You can’t go home again.” And while that might be true on a philosophical level, as many people who have left their Asheville “home” know, sometimes you never really leave in the first place. So, it shouldn’t be completely surprising that artists Jason Weatherspoon and Lauren Gibbes decided to return to our artsy mountain city after a four-year stint in New York City.

Are you one of those folks who really loves the local beer scene, but aren’t exactly sold on devoting your precious time and money to experience the in-depth beer tour that is the Asheville Brews Cruise? How about a compromise? Here’s a sample of the tour, just to give you a taste of the full experience.

Given how easy it is to become distracted with cultural, technological and social stuff in this modern world of ours, it’s sometimes easy to forget just how awesome something as simple as the clouds rolling in can be. So here’s a brief reminder as we watch the fog completely cover the ground below Mount Mitchell.

Love to contra dance, but couldn’t make it out to the Lake Eden Arts Festival? Want to experience it vicariously? I think I have some good news for you.

When possible, I like to close these roundups on a song. So here’s an audio slideshow of Daniel Rassum, a “guitar pickin’, harmonica blowin’, gospel singin’ Asheville musician,” recorded live performing near Pack Place.

Each week, dozens upon dozens of interesting local videos are uploaded to YouTube. It’s a lot to keep up with. Did we miss a particularly interesting, recently uploaded local video? Share it by leaving the video’s URL (but not the embed code) in the comment fields below. Also, please mark it Not Work Safe if there’s any controversial content to the video.
