Watch for next week’s Harvest Records giveaways!

We’re stoked about Harvest Records’ five-year anniversary celebration, Transfigurations. If you are too, be sure to keep your browsers at www.mountainx.com next week.

It’s a three-night, three venue extravaganza, featuring a bevy of talented bands (also, a panel discussion/video screening with some fascinating independent record label heads). Akron/Family, Bonnie Prince Billy, Budos Band, The Books and more.

Who gets presents on Harvest’s birthday? You do! We’re giving away a pair of tickets for each show. One pair on Monday (for the Thursday show), two pairs on Tuesday (for the Friday shows) and two pairs on Wednesday (for the Saturday shows). Confused? Don’t be! Just keep checking by, and also, be our friend on Facebook and follow us on Twitter, cause we give away clues there too. Along with awesome news and multimedia extras.

The festival is more than just music, according to organizers and Harvest Records co-owners Mark Capon and Matt Schnable: “This gathering in our hometown is the culmination of two people sharing a mutual love for creating a space dedicated to the discovery of music. August 2009 has always been a pivotal goal in Harvest Records’ history, a sort of nearly-invisible summit; to celebrate reaching this goal, Transfigurations brings together the spirits of the musicians that we have brought to this city, the artists who have displayed on our walls, the sounds people have found in our shop and the togetherness that we have attempted to breathe into the community…hour by hour, day by day.

Our focus has been to provide a venue for the sharing of ideas, hard work, and striving to live out envisioned ideals. We hope that all attending Transfigurations will connect with this, and perhaps we can all continue to evolve and adapt together.!”

Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Matt and Mark are great neighbors besides being smart businesspeople. They contribute to the community in large ways, but also in a wave or some friendly face time conversation.

They continue to give and i hope that we give back to them our purchases and our friendships.
