You’ll not see nothing like the mighty Lux

Am I the last person on the planet to hear about Lux Magazine? As far as I can tell, this soon-to-be-published mag is the Quinn the Eskimo of the local art scene. With luminaries like designer Alena Hennessey, painter Alli Good, musician Shane Perlowin and video taste-makers Orbit DVD singing the praises of the yet to be released publication, when Lux Magazine gets here, everybody’s gonna jump for joy.

The thing is, I don’t know what Lux is going to be about. I know nothing, except that the magazine has an enviable friends list on MySpace. I hope there’s an opening party. I hope I get an invite. I have to go pick out a dress, just in case.

Anyone out there have any info on this upcoming arts and urban culture magazine?

    Well, it has nothing to do with the LUX magazine culture/nightlife/pocket guide published in Pittsburgh. Their publisher seemed to be a little surprised that there was another mag with the same name and theme starting up here.

    C’mon. Someone throw our readers (and us) a bone here.

    Lux? Possibly a fanzine devoted to The Cramps’ Lux Interior? That would certainly interest me more than the local arts scene. YAWN!

    And hey, Rocket Club! Are you ever gonna open? Heck, I would have figured you would have opened AND closed down by now.

    I’ve heard a bit more about Lux recently, and it sounds like an interesting project. It’s not quite on the scale we were predicting (seems more like a fancy ‘zine than a true glossy mag like the Pittsburgh LUX), but I’m definitely looking forward to checking it out.

    Word on the street is that “LUX” is now called “Thread,” and will be on the streets any day now.

    theunknown: Speaking of local publications, you might find it mildly interesting to know that one of my first ‘zines was called The Unknown (circa 1999 or so). I thought it was very clever at the time.
