Oktoberfest is coming

Inspired by the sight of lederhosen or an Alpine topper? Looking for an excuse to don a dirndl skirt and a peasant top? You’re in luck: Asheville Oktoberfest is just around the corner. The day-long festival takes place Saturday, Oct. 8 (noon-6 p.m.) on Wall Street in downtown Asheville. There will be stein races and keg-rolling contests, German cuisine, live music from Austrian quintet The Stratton Mountain Boys and a beer tasting that includes brews from Highland Brewing, Asheville Brewing Company, Pisgah Brewing, Green Man Brewery, Craggie Brewing and French Broad Brewing Company. The beer tasting is ticketed — advance tickets are $25.
