On the About the Author page of Cecil Bothwell’s new book, Fifty Wheys to Love Your Liver, the former City Council member and former Xpress staffer is referred to as a “prototypical jack-of-all-trades, or renaissance man, depending entirely on who’s doing the labeling.” With his 11th book and second “collection of fictitious tropes,” Bothwell explores such topics as a couple who hit a stumbling block in deciding between Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and an electrician who inherits a Barnardsville goat dairy. The stories take place in the Asheville area or involve fictitious people involved with the city, though, as the book’s introductory disclaimer notes, “it is not to be construed that anything mentioned here actually occurred in the locations named.” Bothwell will read from his book on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 6 p.m. at Malaprop’s. malaprops.com.       Yes, Cecil the Winebibber with that vile temper of his did not belong in political office. He does better wielding the pen that’s mightier than the sword. He’s an interesting character and I wish him well.
