16th annual White Squirrel Festival, May 24-26

Press release from Heart of Brevard:

Brevard, NC is a nationally certified Main Street community nestled in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has become a shopping destination because of the many unique shops and restaurants located downtown. In addition to the fabulous shops and restaurants, Brevard hosts the WHITE SQUIRREL FESTIVAL, an annual celebration of the locally famous furry critter, with a whole lot of fun for humans, too! This family festival, held three days over Memorial Day weekend, attracts more than 35,000 visitors each year and features local handmade arts and crafts, live music, Memorial Day parade, food trucks, craft beer, kids’ activities and rides.

WHITE SQUIRREL FESTIVAL is a quirky festival that begins on Friday night with a lineup of locally and nationally known musicians, food trucks and beer. If you’re an early runner, check out the White Squirrel 5K Run, which takes off on West Main at 8:00am on Saturday. In celebration of Memorial Day weekend, Saturday continues with a Memorial Parade and Wreath Ceremony organized by the American Legion and VFW. The parade honors service men and women, and rolls through town at 9:00 am, followed by the Presentation of the Wreath ceremony at the courthouse.

Also on Saturday, in addition to music, food, and great craft beer, the streets will be lined with vendors offering arts and hand-made crafts, kids’ rides and activities, the White Squirrel Photo Contest winners display photos, and the Transylvania Farmers Market! This year, we will host a special Fair-Trade Village area, which will feature handmade products from all over the world.

The headliner band this year will be Sister Sparrow, which will perform on Saturday night. Also playing over the weekend will be Traverse Brothers, Dirty Birds, The Po Ramblin’ Boys, Lovers Leap, Unspoken Tradition and Zoe & Cloyd, Clint Roberts, Chatham Rabbits, Fireside Collective, and Jamie Laval. The festival, including the concerts, are free and open to the public.
